ABOUT THE CLUB

GENERAL OVERVIEW

MAINE STYX Field Hockey's home base is out of Portland Maine but offers programs in pockets all across Maine.

The club was established in 2012 and has maintained the same single ownership which means the mission and the culture remain consistent.

Curriculums, programs, expectations and systems have certainly evolved over the years but we pride ourselves in our strong, healthy, competitive culture where athletes can truly excel both on and off the field.

STYX is a year round field hockey club. There is something for boys & girls, all ages, all skill levels.

We offer payment plans, discounts, fundraising and scholarships.

The 3 primary programs are the Indoor Leagues, the Travel Teams and the Training Program.

We offer a number of supplemental options such as Camps, Clinics, Hardcourt, Pick Up and Recruitment services.

We host our own tournaments which is a great local option to give players an opportunity to play competitively without going far.

We offer Recruitment services through College Access. Under that program we offer Film & Video Sessions, NFHCA Recruits membership, personal recruitment assistance, and the annual CA Showcase!

We brought back Hardcourt, a version of the game that is fast and fantastic for development. â€‹â€‹

INDOOR LEAGUES

The Indoor Leagues are the original STYX Program, the only program of it's nature in the area, and it's the largest program, both for the Club and for the State.

We offer 3 divisions - LYTTLE STYX, MSIL & HSIL

LYTTLE STYX is grades K-5 and we break into 3-5 Tiers

MSIL is grades 6-8 and we break into 2-3 Tiers

HSIL is grades 9-12 and we break into 3-4 Tiers

We predominately offer these during the Winter but recently began offering LYTTLE & MSIL during Spring, Summer and Fall.

TRAVEL TEAMS

The Travel program has evolved immensely over the last decade. It is really important that all players get an opportunity to experience the world of Travel Field Hockey. The exposure is so beneficial to the athlete (and parents).

Seeing the level of play and speed of play beyond our bubbles is important.

As of 2024-2025 we have teams ranging from u10 - u19 and we offer 3 levels, Club, Regional & Competition.

The Club Level is geared towards the more developmental players and keeps the commitment reasonable, travel distance close and cost low.

The Regional Level is geared towards the more intermediate/advanced players and offers a more moderate commitment, regional events and cost affordable.

The Competition Level is best for those who want to experience the highest level for training and competition. They train 2 days a week and attend the most competitive events in the region/nation.

All levels incorporate classroom, conditioning, skills, recruiting and film.

TRAINING PROGRAM

The Training Program has been around for over a decade but in 2020 during Covid it got a facelift. Same idea - skill focused, but we gave it more structure. The Field Hockey Zone came to be and has it's pwn website, Instagram page and Facebook page. It offers options for field players & goal keepers.

Small Group, Private & Semi Private and Team options for field players and Private & Small Group for goal keepers.

TFHZ also features workshops for coaches.
